Boy’s brown silk embroidered coat. Embroidered with flower, leaf and stem motifs on neck, front edges, cuffs and pockets. Lined with green linen. Sleeves have 3-buttoned ‘mariner’s’ cuffs edged with lace. Stand collar. Twenty-two metal buttons at centre front.

There was no such thing as ‘children’s wear’ during this time, Boy’s would be ‘breeched’ typically around the age of seven. This meant that they had reached manhood and would begin to wear breeches and full menswear.
