Label in neck ‘Simon Howard Made in England’. Label inside left front says ‘Tissus Francais’ (French fabric) which was a popular fabric shop at the time. Tissus Francais began in 1957. Simon Howard was associated with Mod style, which began in the 1950s and took off in the 60s. It was style that evoked the restlessness of youth and a desire to shed traditions. The style was tailored and sleek without fussy details. Fabric patterns were geometric or optical illusions, with block colours. This was the time of the mini skirt, motor scooters and clubbing. R&B, soul and modern jazz was their music.
