Cream sprigged waistcoat, 1760-1770

Man’s cream, fine-grained silk, long waistcoat with two lower flap pockets. Embroidered with multi-coloured flower sprigs and collar, centre opening and buttons embroidered incorporating metal thread. Natural linen lining. Underarms have been replaced – likely worn or to replace sweat-marked silk.

Length 750mm, width 550mm.

Its design appears French, though similar designs were made in Britain during the same period.
