One-piece evening dress, 1845 and 1910

Pink and cream silk striped one-piece evening dress with net and fine linen lace trim at front and back neck, covered buttons, short sleeves. Slight asymmetric vee-shaped front and back, with lace appearing to meet at self-covered button. With a square neck, natural waist and narrower skirt, the dress does not quite meet the fashion standards of the 1840s. This is because it was altered about 65 years later for another wearer around 1910.

Length 1260mm, width 1150mm.

Some of the silk is shattering and the lace is brittle. The dress has previously been creased in storage, so that it appears misshapen on the mannequin.
